You can drive throughout the Poppy zone, but not outside of it. Your place depends on the road is at the maximum allowed speed. That is explained here, among other things. ⬇️
If the maximum permitted speed is 50 km/h, for example within a built-up area, you can choose whether you use the cycle path or ride on the roadway.
If the permitted speed is more than 50 km/h, you must drive on the bicycle path if there is one.
You can also ride a scooter on the bicycle path unless there is a traffic sign with the logo of a moped and the text 'B prohibited'.
When it says 'B mandatory', you must drive on the bicycle path.
To go from Linkeroever to Rechteroever (or vice versa) there are only two options:
- You can take the scooter by hand through the Sint-Anna tunnel (pedestrian tunnel). It is forbidden to go through that tunnel while driving.
- Or driving slowly through the cyclist tunnel of the Kennedy tunnel. This cyclist tunnel has an entrance on Beatrijslaan on Linkeroever and on the right bank of D’Herbouvillekaai.
The Waasland tunnel has the status of a motorway. The movement of mopeds is not permitted on a limited-access road. The Kennedy tunnel has the status of a motorway. The traffic of mopeds is not permitted there. That is why the pedestrian and cyclist tunnel are the only options. 🛵
