What causes certain vehicles to have a discount or surge fee?

An explanatory article on dynamic pricing and how the price of your trip may be adjusted based of realtime demand in different areas

What is Dynamic Pricing?

Dynamic Pricing means the price for a vehicle can adjust based on real-time demand in different areas.

  • In high-demand zones (where only a few cars are available), a small surge fee may apply.

  • In low-demand zones (where many cars are parked), you’ll often get a discount.

This helps improve car availability for everyone and gives you more control over how much you pay. 🚀

🧐 How do you know if a car has a discount or surge fee?

You’ll see a badge when browsing vehicles on the map in the app:

  • 🟢 Green badge = Discounted ride (car is in a low-demand area)

  • 🟠 Orange badge = Surge fee applies (car is in a high-demand area)

You’ll always see the amount upfront before confirming — no hidden costs, no surprises!

🤔 Why do surge fees exist?

Some areas get busy fast — during peak hours, in bad weather, or near popular locations.

When demand is high:

  • The surge fee helps keep cars available for more users who need them.

  • It prevents cars from being blocked by people who don’t end up using them.

  • It keeps things running fairly and efficiently for everyone.

🔄 What happens if you cancel your trip?

The surge fee still applies, even if you cancel your reservation.

This helps make sure that high-demand cars stay available to people who are ready to drive.

💳 Can you pay the surge fee with credits?

Yes. Your credits will be used to cover the surge fee.

📦 Is it included in my pass or subscription?

No. Because the surge fee is based on demand at the moment of booking, it’s not included in any pass or subscription.

💡 Want to save?

If you choose a car in a low-demand area (green badge), you’ll get a discount.

It’s a simple way to help balance the fleet, and save while you do it.

🧭 The bottom line

Dynamic Pricing helps make car-sharing more reliable and fair.

You get:

  • More control over when and how much you pay

  • Better availability across all areas

  • Clear pricing with no surprises
