How do you buy, use, replace or get refunded for a pass?

Here’s everything you need to know about buying, using, replacing, or getting refunded for a pass.

Hour and day passes are a great way to plan your trip with more control over time and cost.

For example, Poppy offers passes like a 2-hour pass (2 hours and 20 kilometers), a 6-hour pass (6 hours and 75 kilometers), and a 1-day pass (24 hours and 400 kilometers).

How to purchase a pass:

  1. Select your vehicle
Choose the car or van that suits your needs from our fleet.

  2. Discover pass options
Swipe up in the app to enter your trip’s duration and distance. If a pass fits your plan, the app will suggest one. You can also tap ā€˜Discover all passes’ to explore all available options.

  3. Select and purchase
Tap on the pass to view the details and confirm your purchase. Payment is handled automatically through your linked payment method. Your pass will activate once your trip begins.

āš ļø Before purchasing, make sure to select the correct vehicle tier, as pass prices vary by tier:

  • L-tier Pass: Use on S, M, and L vehicles (maximum flexibility).

  • M-tier Pass: Use on M and S vehicles.

  • S-tier Pass: Use only on S vehicles.

Replacing a pass during your trip:

Yes, you can replace your hour or day pass even after your trip has started.

  • Just tap ā€˜Replace Pass’ in the app.

  • Your current pass will be canceled.

  • The difference in price with the new pass will be charged or refunded and become active immediately.

  • Time and kilometers already used will carry over to your new pass.

  • Your invoice will reflect the pass that’s active at the end of your trip.

āš ļø If your pass was already used for an ended trip, it can’t be replaced anymore.

Cancelling a pass before your trip:

If you cancel your pass before your trip begins, you’ll get a full refund automatically.

Refunds are processed automatically to the original payment method used during the purchase.

What if you don’t use the full pass?

Passes are valid for multiple trips, so even if you don’t use all the time or kilometers on your first trip, you can still benefit from it later.

However, once a pass is activated:

  • Time continues to run, even if your trip is paused or ended temporarily.

  • Partial refunds are not possible for unused time or kilometers.

Going over your pass limits?

If you exceed your pass's time or distance, here’s what happens:

  • Extra time: You’ll be charged per minute after the included time runs out.

  • Extra distance: You’ll be charged per kilometer beyond your limit.

For instance, if you use a 2-hour pass but your trip lasts 2 hours and 40 minutes, the extra 40 minutes are billed separately. Similarly, if you drive beyond the included kilometers (e.g., 20 km for a 2-hour pass), the extra distance is charged as overmileage.

You’ll get a notification 2 hours before your pass expires, so you have time to replace it or end your trip inside a Poppy zone.

Additionally, certain fees like optional insurance, airport surcharges, or reservation fees may apply and are billed separately.

āš ļø Only one pass can be active per trip. Passes can’t be stacked. Passes must also be activated and applied correctly to avoid standard pricing. For example, if you purchase a pass for one vehicle category (e.g., S-category) but use a different category (e.g., M-category), the pass will not apply. Passes cannot be retroactively applied to trips, so ensure the pass is active before starting your trip. A pre-authorization hold may also appear as a charge but is released by your bank after the trip ends. This hold is not part of the pass cost.

Tips for Avoiding Unexpected Charges

  1. Plan Your Trip: Estimate your total time and distance to select the most suitable pass.

  2. Activate Passes Correctly: Ensure the pass is active and matches the vehicle category before starting your trip.

  3. Monitor Usage: Keep track of your time and distance during the trip to avoid overages.

  4. End Trips Properly: Always end the trip in the app to prevent additional charges.A "day fee" and a "day pass" are two different things:

  • A day fee is automatically charged once you reach a cape while driving without an hour/day pass. This is to prevent you from paying more than necessary. The standard day fee includes 100km and the price varies depending on which vehicle tier you have chosen.

  • A day pass is a pass that you can purchase in the app yourself.
