🛡️ Insurances explained, what are your options?
When you use a Poppy, you can pay per minute, per kilometer or buy a pass. But what happens if something goes wrong — like a scratch, dent, or accident? That’s where insurance comes in.
You can choose from three types of insurance, depending on how much protection you want:
1. Basic insurance
✅ Free of charge.
⚠️ If there’s damage, you pay the full deductible — up to €5,000 for cars and €6,000 for vans, depending on the vehicle (visible in the app).
2. Insurance Plus
💶 A small fee per hour.
After 5 hours, you just pay the day price.
In case of damage, your deductible is reduced by 60% compared to the Basic Insurance.
Available after min. 2 trips.

3. Insurance Premium (maximum protection)

After 5 hours, you also just pay the day price.
In case of damage, your deductible is 0 (subject to conditions, see below).
Minimum 23 years old.
Available after min. 5 trips.

🧾 What’s a “Franchise” (or deductible)?
It’s the amount you have to pay if there’s damage to the vehicle.
The better your insurance, the less you’ll need to pay out of your own pocket.
💳 What if you bought a pass?
If you bought a pass, here’s how it works:
You’ll pay the hourly insurance rate if your pass is under 5 hours.
If your pass lasts more than 5 hours, you’ll automatically pay the daily insurance rate.
If you have a day pass or a multi-day pass, you’ll pay the daily insurance rate for each day your pass covers.
🗓️ What if you have an active subscription?
Insurance is not included in your subscription. You still have to select an insurance type before starting each trip. You do have:
10% off of every insurance type with a Cherry subscription
20% off of every insurance type with a Ruby subscription
30% off of every insurance type with a Fire subscription
💰 How do I view insurance prices and purchase coverage?
When you select a vehicle in the app, you'll see the exact cost of each insurance option based on that specific vehicle. You have to purchase your preferred insurance during the reservation process.
Insurance pricing depends on the vehicle tier. For example, S-tier cars generally have lower repair costs, while vans and larger vehicles are more expensive to repair, so insurance for them may cost more.
Despite the price differences, the insurance structure is the same for all vehicles:
Insurance Plus: Lowers your deductible to 60% of the Basic insurance amount.
Insurance Premium: Eliminates your deductible entirely (0 deductible).
Once you select your insurance and reserve a vehicle, the insurance is automatically applied and the cost is added to your invoice. If you have credits available, they’ll be used first to cover your trip and insurance charges.
💡 Your deductible may not apply if:
You don't report and send us the accident statement correctly (within 48 hours via the app, with photos).
The damage is caused intentionally or through gross negligence (e.g., using the wrong fuel, misuse).
You drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or commit serious traffic violations (e.g., speeding, running a red light).
Someone else drives the vehicle.
You leave the car unlocked or the keys inside, resulting in theft.
You fail to end your trip properly (e.g., outside the allowed zone or without locking the car via the app).
You ignore technical issues (like engine or battery warnings).
You provide false information or fail to report damage.
🔔 Important information:
You must select your insurance type before starting your trip.
You’re chosen insurance is charged for every hour you start — even if you don’t use the full hour.
Poppy does not cover the loss of personal belongings left inside the vehicles
